Legend MC Rick Powell to play Ray Connolly
We are thrilled to announce that Rick Powell has officially joined the cast of FENECH – The Jeff Fenech Story, portraying legendary Australian boxing ring announcer Ray Connolly.
Ray Connolly’s unmistakable voice and commanding presence became a defining sound of Australian boxing through the ’80s and ’90s. His energy shaped the atmosphere of countless iconic fights—including some of Jeff Fenech’s most unforgettable nights. Bringing that legacy to life requires an actor with authenticity, charisma, and a deep respect for the sport.
Rick Powell is exactly that.
With his rich experience as a performer and his genuine understanding of the fight world, Rick brings both the stature and soul needed to honour Connolly’s legacy. His portrayal will capture the electricity of the ring, the rhythm of those legendary announcements, and the larger-than-life aura of a man who helped give Australian boxing its voice.
Rick’s addition strengthens an already extraordinary ensemble and ensures that fans will feel the true heartbeat of the era every time the bell rings.
“Ray Connolly wasn’t just a ring announcer — he was the soundtrack to an entire generation of Australian boxing. Jeff heard his voice on some of the most important nights of his life. To capture that authenticity, we needed someone who understands the sport, respects its history, and can bring that same electricity to the screen. Rick Powell is that person.”
